STEPHEN HARPER AND THE FEDERAL ELECTIONS IN QUEBEC

By Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1) -
The federal election is open and Stephen Harper's strategy is becoming clearer regarding Quebec. Convince public figures to run for his party.
After the journalist Pascale Dery, now Michel Surprenant would be interested in the invitation. His reason: military positions taken by Stephen Harper and the results of his actions on the economy plan.
The race will not be easy for the two opponents Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair.
It will be interesting to see which federal candidates support the organizations of Quebec political parties? Several local politicians, like Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre, who was a direct rival to Justin Trudeau at the Liberal Party will likely be more favorable to Stephen Harper...

MARK ZUCKERBERG AND BOOKS

By Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1) -
Mark Zuckerberg launched its Reading Club in early January as the resolution of the new year and already members are in their second book.
The first two titles: THE END OF POWER by Moisé Naim and THE BETTER ANGELS OF OUR NATURE by Steven Pinker are totally related to current events in the world.
The End of Power describes well the situation of power, or lack thereof, at the level of our society while The better Angels of our Nation raises the finding that human life has never been more peaceful than now when compared with the previous eras in the history of the world.
The goal of the Reading Club (in English) is to propose a different book every two weeks throughout the year 2015.
A beautiful year of reading in perspective! Congratulations Mark!

TARGET CANADA - THE END...

By Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1) -
I predicted it the day after the opening of the first store and after a personal visit in a store that Target would not be a success in Quebec! But I never thought it would close completely and so fast...
Good Bye to the Target's doggy BULLSEYE! I will miss you...

CHARLIE HEBDO AND THE INTERNET...

By Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1) -
Charlie Hebdo has appeared in French newsstands minutes Wednesday morning January 14, 2015 but soon disappeared out of stock while about 1,500 copies are expected to arrive in Canada on Friday around noon...
If there is a finding is the lack of presence on the Internet by the newspaper. There is nothing on the official website of the magazine when it would have been interesting to be able to buy the online newspaper even using the site of another media as operational base such as iBook. Several specialized sites offer the magazine, according to their format from site to site, but I still think that a direct marketing exercise would have been possible with a main site, for example LIBÉRATION or PARIS MATCH or even, why not, LAPRESSE+ to sell the special issue. ITune would also been another excellent central avenue as it was done with the U2 album. With a centralized, announced site, one can also count the number of downloads or sales.
Maybe next week?
Notice to interested media...

POLITICS IN 2015...

By Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1) -
Politics will be very active in 2015, not least due to the federal elections scheduled for next October. Several candidacies will be announced and discussed in the coming months and it will be difficult to follow them all, but the one of the now former journalist Pascale Dery is of particular interest to me because I knew her in another life.
Her possible participation as a candidate call on me for two reasons. First, the biggest dream of Pascale was once to be a journalist! Why is she abandoning the dream she realized? Second, my upset is also related to the fact that I also left a nice career in journalism to go in the world of politics. It was in 1984 with Brian Mulroney's team. This period was the most beautiful of my life but also the most disappointing. Brian's team had the wind in the sails and we wanted to change the world, but the world did not changed...
I have always regretted later my leaving as a journalist!
Pascale Déry, journalist at the french network TVA, ex-assistant Julie Snyder and ex-girlfriend during a time of Stephane Laporte would soon be one of the candidates for the political party of Stephen Harper in the federal election of October 2015.
Pascale is old 38, married with two young children. The couple lives in the riding of Mount Royal.
I specifically known Pascale in 1996 when she was young student and asked me at Quebecor to help her on a research she did for one of her university courses at UQAM. Later, she handed me her file (CV) for a job as researcher for TQS which Quebecor had just acquired. Her dream then was to become a journalist...
Time flies! Already 20 years ago...
What had impressed me at the time was her father's exceptional story as a traveling dentist with a specially equipped car to provide home care (SOS Dentist).
Pascale I wish you good luck! Although I am a pro-Justin Trudeau fan and I will vote for his candidate in my riding, I think Stephen Harper is going to be re-elected! He eliminated the deficit and his military positions are popular. Voters do not like to take risks with their vote and they prefer the values they know...
To be continued!

GILBERT FINN (1920-2015)

by Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1) -
A great builder of Canada, Gilbert Finn, died Wednesday January 7, 2015 at the age of 94.
I had the pleasure to know the character when I was living in Moncton, New Brunswick, and I deeply admired and liked this exceptional man.
Militant Order of Jacques Cartier (La Patente), he was one of four Acadian emissaries to meet with French President Charles de Gaulle in 1968. He returned with financial assistance. He led the insurance company the Assumption, the University of Moncton in 1987 as president and was the second Acadian to access the Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick. A position he held for seven years. He helped develop the newspaper LE MATIN (project on which I had worked) after the closing of L'ÉVANGELINE (where I was a journalist).
Gilbert Finn was awarded the Order of Canada, but returned it in 2008, when Governor General Michaëlle Jean chose to decorate Dr. Henry Morgentaler...
Gilbert Finn has always been a man of conviction, sometimes criticized for its methods, but who knew how to move his files as he puts it in his memoirs, entitled "FAIS QUELQUE CHOSE" a book that I have had the great pleasure to read...
