GARAGE WINTER SALE ... or urban stories!

by Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1.com) -
To take advantage of the beginning of the new year 2013, a personal woman friend decided to get rid of some furniture that she was storing for many years in a locker downtown Montreal.
It must be said that in addition to a resolution of the new year, the action was also motivated by increased rental as the supplier has decided to change its billing and applying blocks of 4 weeks rather than monthly blocks . In accounting, it has the direct effect of adding an extra month of income in a year (13 months) and of course, an increase for the tenant...
A locker costs on average $ 150 per month, totalling almost $ 2,000 per year after the increase. Furniture storage never take enough value to offset the rent, unless it be antiques, which was not the case for objects of my friend.
That being said, together we decided to organize a virtual garage sale and announce the furniture on a classifieds ads site online. We had a couple of replies to our listings, but either the buyers wanted to negotiate the price down by half; receiving the furniture delivered to their homes; or, in one case, the buyer wanted to visit the home seller...
The latter is, however, unclear and this may be an individual wanting to spot for home invasion! This individual was interested in the least significant objects, a radio with speaker and at my suggestion (I was acting as a direct liaison with potential buyers) to pick up the radio directly to the storage locker, he suggested rather to come to our residence. I explained to him that all items for sale were in the warehouse and he accepted this procedure. But the next morning he called me to suggest again that he would rather come to our home instead of the storage. While I explained again that it would be easier for him to go to the locker located in the middle of downtown, I added that we would prefer not to receive private home buyers since we do not really know all these people, he finally said that it was too complicated and he declined the purchase...
A retired policeman friend is convinced that this is probably an organized network of flights home with identification of target areas for action. But do not panic!
Conclusion: no success with the sales on the internet! My woman friend will make some calls to charities by the end of the lease of 31 January and there is good chance that the Salvation Army will be benefiting of the old furniture... except that radio that she will keep as a souvenir of this garage sale in 2013!

Lance Armstrong and Oprah Winfrey...

By Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1.com) -
The interview of the century between Oprah Winfrey and Lance Armstrong is in fact a confirmation of the talent of Oprah more than repentance by a champion cyclist. Armstrong is a highly skilled communicator but one retains most of his message is that he lied during his career, but he did not realize the scope of his lies at the time. The champion does not regret having lied but regrets not having realized the extent of his actions on his entourage. If he had known the importance given to his behavior, he would have acted differently...
Both interviews are total of 5 hours of television and all media around the world have talked about it... Conclusion: the event is a great success for Oprah!

LA PRESSE and her future...

La Presse may experience difficulties with its unions.
Management plans to reduce its workforce and transform its operations just as did the Journal de Montreal after a long conflict with journalists. It will be remembered that the direction of La Presse in 2009 had threatened to close the newspaper definitively if union did not accept an increase in their working week. Employees had quickly accepted the request...
The threat is now back again. Stay tuned!

Claude Benoit, Director of the Old Port of Montreal will leave on February 28...

By Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1.com) -
Claude Benoit, Director of the Old Port of Montreal, has finally been officially thanked for her services and she will leave on February 28th. The search for a replacement is officially launched. The spokesman for Canada Lands Company has confirmed the decision by press release today on January 16, 2013.
Recall that the Old Port of Montreal was dissolved on last November 29, 2012 and it is now the Canada Lands Company which runs the facility. Local director Claude Benoit has been criticized for her spending as a manager and several saw the elimination of local board as an automatic replacement of Madame Benoit, which did not happen.
Some employees of the Old Port seem to have their own opinion on the subject because during the holidays ( January 2, 2013) while Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1.com) was walking near the ice rink in the Old Port and as he chatted with attendants on site, the guy on the Zamboni had called Claude Benoit: "F. ......", while his colleague at security added more politely: "Unfortunately, the dictatorship of Madame Benoit is not over, despite what the media reported... "
Their wish is now realized!

THE NEW QUEBEC LIBERAL PARTY...

by Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1.com) -
While Jean Charest announced his new role as a lawyer at McCarthy Tetrault, and just days before the beginning of the five public debates between candidates for his succession to take place on 13, 20 and 27 January and 2 February, respectively, in Montreal, Quebec, Gatineau and Rimouski, the journalist Patrick Lagacé of La Presse published a summary of his dinner with three Liberal candidates in the race. Recall that the Liberal convention will be held at Verdun on 16 and 17 of March. There is much to be expected once a new leader in office, that the Liberals will want to quickly overthrow the current government of Pauline Marois and trigger a general election in Quebec.
